For Libby Wadle, CEO of J. Crew Group, Fair Trade Certified wasn’t something she originally associated with fashion. It was something you saw on coffee and chocolate labels not on jeans. And there was a good reason she didn’t associate Fair Trade with denim because it didn’t exist until, under her leadership, Madewell became the first brand to certify their denim through Fair Trade USA.
At the 2021 Conscious Capitalism CEO Summit, Libby was joined by Paul Rice, Founder & CEO of Fair Trade USA, for a conversation about bringing purpose-driven practices to the fashion industry by building strong and equitable relationships with suppliers. Libby outlines J. Crew’s ongoing commitment to sustainability through actions like supporting circular fashion and creating Fair Trade goals around their biggest product lines, like Madewell denim and J. Crew cashmere, to make sure they are making the most impact.
The keynote was recorded at the 2021 Conscious Capitalism CEO Summit on October 5, 2021 in Austin, TX. This annual, invitation-only gathering of CEOs, Presidents, and Founders, provides the opportunity for three days of in-depth, peer-to-peer sharing among Conscious Leaders.
