Creating an effective diversity, equity, and inclusion plan that provides opportunities for all requires thoughtful consideration, an authentic commitment to follow through, and measurable action items. An important component of a successful corporate DEI initiative is a focus on racial equity, which involves understanding and reevaluating current policies through the lens of those who have been traditionally underrepresented due to race.
Jocelyn Corbett is the Director of Corporate Racial Equity at PolicyLink, an experienced changemaker and cross-sector leader working to provide guidelines and standards for more robust and impactful DEI policies in the private sector. At this Virtual Gathering, Jocelyn will share her experience with programmatic initiatives that focus on ways for everyone to participate in an equitable economy and create thriving workplaces. She will explain racial equity and its importance in corporate DEI and ESG efforts, explore common pitfalls and opportunities when advancing racial equity at your company, ensure a Conscious Culture for all employees, as well as preview upcoming corporate performance standards that can be adopted for maximum impact and progress.

Conscious Capitalists are always looking for fresh, new ways to elevate humanity, change lives and positively impact their communities through business. At-risk youth and those previously incarcerated are segments of the population that have potential to thrive in the workplace and society if given the chance and the right tools. The Responsible Business Initiative for Justice recently launched Unlock Potential, an innovative hiring program funded by Walmart, that aims to provide meaningful career opportunities to at-risk youth, teaching them new skills and helping them stay focused on a path for success.
At this Virtual Gathering Dr. Marvin Carr, Director at the Walmart.org Center for Racial Equity, and Maha Jweied, CO-CEO at Responsible Business Initiative for Justice will discuss this groundbreaking initiative: the reasons behind its formation, how it creates opportunities for those in need, the long-standing effects for underserved communities and how success is being measured. This conversation will also offer insight and inspiration for anyone looking to expand their conscious hiring practices, support a diverse workforce and make a far-reaching impact.

Years after the onset of the pandemic, the remote teams that emerged out of necessity remain a common characteristic of many company workforce and operational strategies, whether hybrid or fully virtual. As businesses continue to weigh the pros and cons of these models, some have fully committed to a remote-first culture not only as a way to operate efficiently but also to recruit candidates and retain employees seeking increased flexibility.
With their team working fully remote for the past 25 years, our partner Barrett Values Centre (BVC) helps fellow organizations empower their people, perform at their best, and achieve their goals. At this virtual gathering Chris Gomez, CEO of BVC, will share guidance and tips on how to create an efficient remote culture, ways to motivate and rally distributed teams around a shared purpose, how to consciously lead in a virtual setting, and more.

Conscious Capitalism Curious? Have questions about how to apply the tenets of Conscious Capitalism in your own business? Have a story to share with us?
Join members of the Conscious Capitalism Columbus board of trustees for office hours, once a month in 2022. Some virtual, some in-person, all informal convivial opportunities to catch up with fellow community members and connect with others interested in business as a force for good in the world.
In September, you’ll get a chance to talk with Chris Dilley, who serves on the championship committee of our local chapter, at the MAD Scientist Associates offices. Drinks and snacks will be provided.
About Chris Dilley, CEO/Co-Owner, MAD Scientist Associates LLC and Co-Owner of Scioto Gardens Nursery
Christine is CEO of MAD Scientist Associates, LLC, a central Ohio wetland and ecological consulting firm providing services throughout Ohio and the Midwest. Register The U.S. health system is the most expensive yet
The U.S. health system is the most expensive yet produces the worst health outcomes of the wealthiest countries in the world. Social worker-turned-CEO Amy Brown wants to change that. Her approach is different than most. Rather than relying on new rules and regulations, Brown and her company Authenticx are redefining the “care” in health care.
Specializing in listening at scale, Authenticx will listen to more than 1000M patient and customer conversations in 2022. Clients include top 10 pharmaceutical and insurance companies—a major feat for a start-up not yet five years old. But unlike the typical story, Conscious Leadership and embedded empathy serve as unique elements of this entrepreneurial success.
Join us on September 15 for insights from Amy Brown’s conscious journey to disrupt health care.
• Learn why leading with heart matters to people and profits.
• Understand how focusing on Higher Purpose can build a business while changing the world.
• Discover why encouraging staff authenticity and recruiting for compassion creates a high-performing team.
Featured Presenter: Amy Brown, Founder & CEO, Authenticx
Amy Brown built her career in the health care industry, during which time she advocated for underserved populations, led and mobilized teams to expand health care coverage to thousands of local residents, and learned the nuance of corporate operations.
She grew up the daughter of a physician who said, “Amy, if you ever really want to understand a patient, all you have to do is listen to them.” That grounding gave her a different lens for solving some of health care’s biggest problems as a health care executive and now CEO. Brown founded Authenticx in 2018 with the mission of bringing the authentic voice of the patient into the boardroom to increase positive health care outcomes.

LEADING IN A VUCA WORLD: EVENT OVERVIEW
VUCA, an acronym first used at the US Army War College in response to the collapse of the USSR, stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. Fast forward to today and VUCA is now used by many organizations to describe the dynamic nature of the environments we live and operate in.
The increase in volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity means that you and your business must seek new orientation. As a leader, how do you bring clarity in uncertain times? Conscious capitalism, and conscious leadership specifically, expands the lens that leaders use to understand how to leverage stakeholders and relationships, go inward, and gain focus to navigate a world that’s rapidly changing and unpredictable.
Join us for a morning of thought-provoking conversation and connection where we explore the ways in which the definition of leadership must expand in light of the VUCA world we live in.

The Return on Purpose: How Stakeholder-fueled Purpose Animates Long-term Profitability
Today stakeholders – customers, investors and communities alike – are holding us to a higher standard. The people we serve are increasingly demanding that companies pursue a purpose bigger than profitability. Not as a tag-line, or advertising campaign, but as the animating force behind our business model, strategy and culture.
But can that purpose also serve as a differentiating and competitive advantage? What impact does purpose have on financial returns in the short term? How do we ensure that purpose performs and stakeholder engagement produces results in the long-term?
Join us on Wednesday, October 19 as Haley Boehning, Conscious Capitalism Columbus founding board member, shares the latest on the economics of purpose, and interviews two venture-backed, purpose-driven entrepreneurs about raising capital, running a business and animating profits with purpose.

Register The Great Resignation. The Great Reshuffle. The Great Rethink.
The Great Resignation. The Great Reshuffle. The Great Rethink. No matter what you call it, attracting and retaining talent HAS NEVER BEEN MORE CHALLENGING. Today’s workforce wants more from their jobs—and that doesn’t just mean additional money and benefits. In fact, 70% of Americans now say they define their sense of purpose through work.
Welcome to the new American workplace. Here having a positive impact and embracing a company’s mission, vision, and values are mandatory for attracting workers. In a time where an individual can work almost anywhere, demonstrating purpose beyond profit serves as the great differentiator.
Good matters. Yet many companies struggle in being values-aligned with their candidates and current staff. Not because they aren’t, but because they don’t know how to position this message in a way that resonates with today’s workers.
The companies that succeed in attracting and retaining talent understand how to bridge the gap between what workers want and what businesses do.
The “Why” for Attending:
BONUS: The workshop offers 7.5 professional development credits toward SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP recertification.
