We are so excited to have three inspiring “Stories Elevating Humanity through Business” videos to kick off 2017!
Our first is L.A. Kitchen, an East Los Angles-based nonprofit harnessing the power of food to better their community. They recover fresh fruit and vegetables to be used in a culinary arts job-training program for former inmates and young adults leaving the foster care system.
The business was founded by nonprofit pioneer, Robert Egger, who previously ran the renowned D.C. Central Kitchen, which has prepared millions of meals for low-income and at risk residents of that city since it opened in 1989.
How can a not-for-profit business be a shining example of Conscious Capitalism?L.A. Kitchen’s success has empowered it to launch a social enterprise called Strong Food. This for-profit spin-off business employs some of L.A. Kitchen’s culinary program graduates who compete for food service contracts and serve healthy meals to low-income seniors. No wonder AARP helped launch L.A. Kitchen with a $1 million start-up grant!
Like all conscious enterprise successes, the effort to bring these “Stories Elevating Humanity through Business” to you was truly a result of mutually-engaged, interconnected stakeholders. Much appreciation to Conscious Capitalism Los Angeles Chapter executive director Maureen McComsey for producing these examples of conscious businesses reaffirming capitalism’s role as the greatest force for good in the world.
Now, it’s your turn to share with your favorite Conscious Capitalist!
